When you think about winter, what comes to mind? A happy and festive season or do you consider it to be a rather sad and lonely time? 

Of course, some days are better than others and the same goes with the seasons. For some people, the gloomy weather and not being able to share with their loved ones as they did in previous years is taking a toll mentally.

But no matter what your circumstances are, it’s been proven time after time that feeling good about yourself it’s super beneficial to face challenges and make even the coldest day feel warm and bright inside. 

And the good news is that even when everything seems to be out of control, there are some things you can do to feel like you got this and to let your brain know –finally- that you are important, deserving, and well taken care of. 

Here are 5 tips that will make you feel better than being on a tropical destination summer vacation:

1. Remove everything toxic

Pretty basic, right? But let’s face it, in this season –more than any other- we tend to put up with more stuff than we can- maybe is talking to overly critical people, putting more things on our plate than we can handle, or just comparing ourselves to others that appear to be having the time of their lives. 

Think about every person or situation that makes you feel awful and please, put your well-being first, you deserve it!

2. Make your home look nice

We’ve all come to terms with the fact that we’ll be spending more time at home this year, so why not make it extra agreeable and cozy? 

You can do so by decorating using colors, textures, and scents you love. It doesn’t have to be festive if you don’t feel like it, it should make you feel like you are in a place where you can relax and let go. 

3. Keep your best interests in mind

Winter is the perfect time to indulge and that’s awesome! However, even when comfort foods are mandatory, make sure you are doing what’s best for you in the long run, which means having a mindset that is respectful to your body. Yes, you should take advantage of all the deliciousness available, but do so with control, listening to your body. Also, keep extra hydrated! In winter, people feel about 40 percent less thirsty, even though the body’s need for water is unchanged. For this reason, keep close a big glass or mug as a reminder for getting enough fluids.

4. Get up

Even when the bed and couch are super comfy and feel like your new best friends, take time to move enough. You’ll feel much better, stronger, and ready to relax. If going out is a possibility do so and get an extra vitamin D exposure, which will help you have healthier skin and keeps your immune system strong.

5. Nurture your mind and soul

Remember the days –not so long ago when we all had an incredible desire to learn new things and promised ourselves to use time at home to reach a bunch of goals? Well, you can still use your time to learn something new, to feel creative, discover new things about yourself, and to look after your mind even more than your body. 

Self-care can be hard work, but remember that if you build these wellbeing habits, you’ll enjoy a better winter, feel great about yourself, and hopefully next year will be looking forward to this season!
